We all think we know how to run. After all, it’s as natural as putting one foot in front of the other. Too often, though, an activity which should be pleasurable and fulfilling instead leads to frustration and injury. Physical and mental barriers can stop progress far short of full potential, whether you’re a regular runner or new to the sport.
The Art of Running is based on the proven principles of the Alexander Technique, which encourage good use of the body and greater awareness of the way it functions. Learn how to achieve and maintain fitness without injury and how to overcome self-imposed limitations to enjoyable and successful running.

Malcolm Balk is a well-known Level 4 running coach and still competes in his veteran category. (Age group Canadian half marathon champion in 2011 and 2012….never mind how old!) In 1991 he brought running and the Alexander Technique together when he developed the Art of Running workshops which have been enjoyed by runners all over the world.
Malcolm Balk is the author of two books: Master the Art of Running and Master the Art of Working Out.
The art of running is to be found in the process – in the act itself. The beauty of the art is that it can be recreated in every step. The past doesn’t matter, its the next step that counts.

GROUP WORKSHOP
The Art of Running offers workshops regularly in Montreal, NYC, in the UK and around the world. Workshops (2-3.5 hours) are an ideal setting to learn the basics of the Art of Running. The workshop is a mixture of exploring and learning new drills, short bursts of activity and an opportunity to test out what you’ve learned with the ‘infamous’ Zen workout.
In Canada: $100

SMALL GROUP SESSION
Runners who want to share a lesson with a friend or two can check out the small group option. Enjoy the same benefits of a one to one session at a lower cost with the added value of group learning.
In Canada: $130 plus $30 per person up to 4 people in total.

ONE TO ONE SESSIONS
One to one sessions are one of the most effective ways of identifying problems in your running style. In a block of 3 lessons we have time to make the link between your day to day posture and movement patterns and how you run. I use video analysis to help determine what’s working well and where you need to improve.
In Canada: $150 per session; $360 for a block of 3
