Which runner has better USE?

Several books on the Alexander Technique including Gelb’s Body Learning and Balk and Shield’s Master the Art of Running include images of Runners displaying what Alexander teachers call ” Good Use.”Watching runners in the Paris Olympic marathon performing at the highest level, I was struck by the fact that many of them did not conform visually to the traditional idea of good Use, at least visually.
Should these discrepancies simply be judged as “bad Use” providing fuel for judgement and ‘correction’ according to the Alexandrian ideal with implications for improvement in performance? I always wondered how Paula Radcliffe with her waggling head could have been able to run a world record when clearly her “poor use” indicated otherwise!!
If this sounds intriguing to you, come join us for an evening of observation and inquiry in alignment with Alexander’s initial process of self-study and discovery as documented in the Use of the Self.
The workshop will focus on walking first and then show the connection between walking and running.  Participants can decide for themselves if they want to stay with walling or try a bit of both when we go outside to put what we’ve learned into practice.
