Upcoming Workshops

The Art of Running in Helsinki: TBD

This a 2 day workshop organized as follows:

Day 1: For Alexander Technique teachers as well as ‘normal’ people 🙂

In his seminal book The Inner Game of Tennis Gallway describes what he calls Self 1 and Self 2. Self 1 refers to our conscious selves, the part that we use to learn, self coach, give directions…Self 2 is our unconscious side which operates when we’re in the Zone, making effortless effort just letting IT happen. All of us have experienced the challenge and perhaps frustration of trying to Let IT happen but find ourselves ‘getting in the way’,

In this session, we’ll use Self 1 to learn/review good walking and running mechanics and then play with some novel ways of getting out of the way and letting IT happen, maybe even discovering the flow and ease Gallway ascribes to Self 2.

Day 2

On day 2, we will look at  how modern tech can be used to reduce the curse of micromanagement associated with Self 1 and help us discover the joy of letting it happen…

Runeasi (my latest tech) offers an extremely accurate way of measuring 3 basic aspect of gait:

1) Symmetry or how our right side varies from the left

2) Impact, both how hard we hit the ground and how well we absorb the shock of the landing

3) Stability or much motion is wasted going to the side vs ahead.

In spite of analysing 100″s of runners and walkers over the years,  Runeasi is able to identify weaknesses and  potential causes of injury which I could not see, or hear. Get ready to find out some new and useful things about your stride

Every participant who wishes will get a mini evaluation with the  Runeasi tech. We will also explore some of the suggestions for improvement that are included in the analysis.

Take your understanding of use in walking and running to a new level and enjoy the practical benefits of this knowledge! Apply Alexander principles to walking and running with a view of thinking ‘outside the box’. This includes a consideration of movement in 3 planes, working with wedges and other external aids, and a re-framing of ‘the head leads and the body follows’.

In this workshop:

  • Explore the fundamentals of gait
  • Improve your stride
  • Learn to move with more ease, freedom, and enjoyment
  • Play with the latesst

This is a workshop, not a workout and is designed for runners and walkers of all levels.  Beginners welcome.
